Actually, there is no evidence of this whatsoever. Furthermore, it would take a serious stretch of the mind to use the story of Sodom and Gomorrah to substantiate the belief. If you don't know the story, I will break it down for you, but it can be found in Genesis 19.
God knows things are going to Hell in a hand-basket in Sodom so he sends two angels to go investigate. He tells them to find ten righteous men and that if they can do this, He will reconsider destroying the city. When the angels go to the city, they are greeted most graciously by a man named Lot. He bowed to the angels and invited them into his house to stay the night and feast (though he had no idea they were angels). Before the angels could sleep after they had feasted with Lot, an angry mob gathered outside of the house. The Bible says men, young and old, and people from every quarter gathered. They called to Lot saying "Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us that we may know them." Lot hurried outside to address the mob. They would not be satisfied. Lot even offered his two daughters in the stead of his guests, but the crowd insisted that if Lot didn't bring them out that they would treat Lot even worse. Just in time, the angels smote the men outside the door with blindness and rescued Lot. They told him to gather his family and leave. Lot did his best to gather his family but his sons in law didn't believe him when he said God would destroy the city. Lot made it out of the city with his two daughters and his wife. Though the angels said not to look back, Lot's wife did and she turned into a pillar of salt. Once Lot and his daughters had gone, God destroyed the cities. Fin.
OKAY........
To "know" someone (in a Biblical sense) is sexual. Indeed, the men outside of Lot's house which were comprised of young and old and from every quarter, wanted to gang rape Lot's guests. Of course God would not be happy about the kind of behavior! I doubt that most people need to read the Bible to gather that it is a terrible act. AND, not only did they say they wanted to gang rape Lot's guests, they said that if Lot didn't go with it that they would treat him worse... Think about that for a second... These people are pure evil!
So how does this relate to homosexuality? Sure, if these men were the gays of that time, they were setting a horrible example... But I don't even believe they were all gay. If they were, why would Lot have offered his two daughters to a bunch of gay men? Obviously, it wouldn't have made sense for him to do that if they were all gay.
Finally, I conclude that the sin of Sodom has nothing to do with good, consenting gays. Nowhere in the story does it every say it is for the sole fact that any of the men at all were homosexual. The reason I believe the cities were destroyed is because the angels never found ten righteous men in the city. If you're wondering where I came up with that, read Genesis 18.
Side notes... What about sodomy? The use of the word sodomites in the Bible? Well, the word sodomy wasn't used in the sense it is today until the 13th century. Isn't that so out of context? Also, the word sodomite does not refer to homosexuals. People say it does but its rooted into the Hebrew word Qadesh or Qadeshah which is in reference to shrine prostitution and the ritual worship of a fertility Goddess. The word sodomite NEVER refers to homosexuals in the Bible.
So there you have it.
