Okay... Seriously, I do think this little saying is funny. It is more funny for the sole fact that it is a terrible logic to found anti-gay beliefs upon, especially if you're using Genesis. If you want to reference the scripture, be my guest: www.BibleGateway.com (they have like every version of the Bible on this website)
Let's look into this, shall we?
Genesis 2:24 says "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh."
This is supposed to support the idea that God doesn't condone consensual homosexual relationships? Really?? It sounds to me like He's talking about heterosexuals... especially seeing as he just created two of them. It would certainly go with the context of what's happening as we read.
Let's look at what God said before that.
Genesis 2:18 "It is not good that a man should be alone."
God makes it pretty clear that it's not good for a man to be alone. Doesn't this indicate that God's intent for making Eve in the first place was companionship? Where in all this does God say "And even if a man really loves another man and wants to make a lifelong commitment to him, he can't because I said so?" That's right! God never says a single thing about consensual same sex marriages/relationships in Genesis.
Let's evaluate the logic here. If we were to say that YES, the creation story in Genesis condemns homosexual relationships of any kind simply by omission, then we could draw a lot of radical conclusions... Like God is against wedding rings, wedding dresses, getting married in Church, adopting children, etc... We use out good sense when it comes to seeing that OBVIOUSLY God doesn't have anything against these things just because He didn't bring it up... but how can we make an excuse for homosexuality?
!!!!! Okay... so I'm not trying to go out of my way to piss anyone off here. Don't take this as a personal attack on your beliefs if you don't buy anything I'm saying. I have more of these blogs to come as I am studying the Bible. !!!!!
